Minecraft 1.9 & Snapshots - Blocks

I would go with the first approach but with the character not in white. Time to experiment with other colors in that part.

I was also thinking of something like, instead of having the S (save) L (load) C (corner) D (data) characters, why not play around with different colors of the inner gradient for each variation? Maybe trying a red version for save, a green version for load, a cornered color version for corner (duh) and a blue version for data?

What do you think? :) Gimme your thoughts!

I made this 2 versions for the structure blocks (Character color still needs to be changed)
    But i dunno... what do u think @Valsis ?

Or maybe just having them with the "default" style (Im gonna use this version in my pack)

@JasonZ617 the white characters are standing up way to much. Those need to be tweaked for sure. Try to mess around with texture in them and tone down the white, it's way to much contrast between dark/bright color.

I also prefer the Default style as well, I was just trying to see how it would look if it was different.

Right now this is the only feedback I can give you since I'm sick. I'll come back to it once I feel better.

    Grass Time!
This is my try at the Grass Path. Im using random textures using custom Blockstates and Models. Also the grass texture variations are the ones Shoeboxam posted back in 1.7 when we needed Optifine to have texture variations...
I added a slight Dirt texture to give the sensation of grass being "compressed" against the ground, like a real grass path.

Also made the variations to normal grass, and removed the random rotations :D
Im gonna attach a .zip file containing two folders, one for normal grass and one for the path, in case you want to use one of them or both :p

I modified the planks to make this version for better tiling with slabs and stairs. In case you want to add them to your pack :p

I dont know if this was already made but i "fixed" the models and textures that didnt work correctly with the new 1.9 pack format. Also added some features! This is what i did:
    -Fixed all fences models.
    -Fixed all gates models.
    -Fixed the cobblestone walls.
    -Fixed the wooden button.
-Added a modified version of gold block texture for a better looking light pressure plate.
-Added random rotations on ALL 1 block tall flowers.
-Changed & improved the organization and directory of grass and grass_path textures i added in my previous post (also added more variations) :p
-Added 64 different grass variations (Textures made by Shoeboxam).
-Added 64 different mycelium variations (Textures made by Shoeboxam).
    Items still need some work...
.zip file attached containing every change in different folders, so you can choose some or every one

This looks awesome, I'll test this out to confirm the model fixes and get them pushed to our dev branch. Then will go over the textures and give my feedback on the changes :)

Sooo. I just noticed that the fence model fix i posted yesterday broke the nether fences... So here is the fix! :D
I think long time ago i saw a nice texture for the nether fences but i couldnt find it, so they keep using the normal nether brick texture...

    Happy new year everyone!

With this new year I'm back with a few updates to all threads. Consdiering the 1.9 update is right around the corner, I took the time to make a list of what's done, what's still being worked on and what needs to be done. A few new textures were added in the meantime and I took the time to not only make a few but also tweak a few others that were posted here.

From what I read in the Wiki, there's still more things to come. Below we have the updated versions of the boats.

One of the most expected features in the game are the shields, as of now there's only two textures made that can be seen below.

These need testing because of the base of the shield that I'm not sure if it will work and they go in:
    minecraft/textures/entity/shield
Also, the overlays are NOT done. We need help with them.

A new texture was added and it's called Frosted Ice. This texture shows up in game when a potion of frosting is applied to boots making water freeze and making it possible for the player to walk over water for a certain amount of time. I used our Ice texture and added some of our breaking stages to it to make the cracking effect, just like the vanilla ones.

I kinda made purpur blocks, purpur pillars, end bricks and new end rod.

@CRASH1997 from what I can see the Purpur textures have little to no texture making it look like it's a plain light purple base and the chiseled parts (dark & light indentations) have a huge contrast with the base color. Those need to be toned down a notch.

The same thing is happening with the end bricks texture along with the end rod. Exactly the same issues pointed above.

Time to invest some more time in having a better textured base and tone down those chiseled parts ;) I know you can do it!

Honestly, I used the simpliest way to make textures not plain.
    1. Noise
    2. Wind
    3. Blur
    4. ?????
    5. PROFIT

    Probably I shouldn't use blur.

I made my purpur blocks look smoother. I think they look very nice.
@Valsis, I looked at your purpur blocks in beta-version of Soartex Fanver and I think they are a little bit shiny. Also purpur pillar blocks don't look like they are connected.
(Ow wow, I feel like a mentor...)
But your end rod probably is better than mine.

Hi, I've never been on here except to get the new versions of Soartex which my fiends and I have been using for a long time. But before the 1.9 resource pack was released I had a go at making my own purpur blocks and end brick textures. As well as making the end rods match my purpur blocks and my own "dirt path" grass path. So I dont know if its too late to submit anything or really how to do this but i thought I might as well try and see if anyone else likes my attempts. My purpur blocks also have a different design because I couldn't get mine to look nice with the original patterns lol I don't know if that'll be an issue or not.

@GraceUnique , I like these texture of purpur blocks, but this purple is too much intense. Very much intense. Original texture has paler color.
And end bricks... I think they should be smoother.
  28. DrumMaster4

DrumMaster4 Texture Reviewer / Moderator Staff Member

Oh hey, I'm gonna review textures!

    @GraceUnique – Phenomenal start, seriously!
    Block:
However, much like @CRASH1997 said, the purple is way too intense. I quite like the texture of the Purpur Block, so maybe just try to lighten up on the purple just a little bit (or saturate it less, I'm not sure what you did) so it's a bit paler. Look at some of the other ideas for the sense of color I'm trying to get at.
    Pillar:
The pillars look pretty good as well, but again the purple needs to be paler. And regarding the screenshot, could it be closer so I can see the Purpur Pillar block itself? I can't quite make it out in the current screenshot.
    End Bricks:
The End Bricks are giving me very much of a medieval feel. If you'll notice in your screenshot though, you can see some tiling issues between the end of one block and the beginning of another. There also seems to be a color change from one side of the brick to the other, so that needs to be fixed as well. And definitely a smoother texture – the bricks right now seem kind of noisy like they belong in a medieval-type resource pack.
    End Rod:
Seems pretty good to me! :) Just lighten up a tiny bit on the purple, again.
    Particles.png:
I'd have to look at the current particles in the pack to see the difference, so I can't review these yet.
    Dirt Path:
This is one of those textures I'm going to have to test out, just because it's hard to base it off of one screenshot. While I like it, it feels almost a little too realistic for Soartex. I'll get back to you on this though.

I'm going to go through the current textures of the pack and the other posts in this forum and then potentially edit some of my reviews based on what @Valsis has said, as I've been out of this for a while. Apologies as well if anything sounds harsh, I haven't reviewed since the summer I believe.
  29. CRASH1997

    CRASH1997 Well-Known Member

Drum, can you review my textures please? :D
  30. DrumMaster4

DrumMaster4 Texture Reviewer / Moderator Staff Member

    @CRASH1997 – sure!

The color of the Purpur textures is quite nice
    Block:
I'm sure this isn't the case, but the Purpur blocks and pillar look like our Stone texture base, re-colored and "etched" differently. Unfortunately that's a lot of what I'm seeing on the Purpur textures you've got here, especially on just the plain block.
    Pillar:
Same with the block. Again though, I do love the color.
    Pillar Top:
My only issue here is that I think those corner squares are burned a little too much. It's a strong contrast from the rest of the block that my eye tends to jump to it, and I personally don't think the contrast needs to be that drastic. Actually, I'm not sure if there needs to be a color difference – just some shading, maybe?
    Rod:
If you look at your rods, you can see at each edge a drastic difference that forms a sort of outline on the rod. The transition, I feel, should be smooth (gradient-like, if you will) and just flow into the rod. Not that you should copy, but look at Valsis' End Rod to see what I mean about the smooth edges and whatnot.

(I know we don't have a customizer and I'm thinking "big picture" here, but these could be good as alternate Purpur Textures :))
